BarroMetrics Views: Purpose and Vision
Most of the professional traders I mix with have a very good idea of the purpose and vision for their trading. Most newbies have neither and not only that, they fail to appreciate the difference between the two.
The best exposition I have read of the difference is by Robert Fritz in The Path of Least Resistance:
“It’s not what Vision is; it’s what Vision does!…Creative people use the gap between Vision and current reality to generate energy for change…
But Vision is different from Purpose. Purpose is a … general heading. Vision is a … …. picture of a desired future…Purpose is ‘being the best I can be’..Vision is “breaking the four-minute mile”.
That’s a fabulous statement of the nature and importance of Vision - not only for trading but for life in general. Truth be told, I have applied Fritz’s ideas since I first read him. Now Coyle has taken Fritz a giant step forward in learning theory. In the future, I expect to see the Coyle model as starting some sort of educational revolution.
A happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate the holiday!
