BarroMetrics Views: The Challenges Facing a Trading Coach

As a trading coach, I face two key challenges:

  1. That what the students hear is what I mean and
  2. That the students turn my lessons into a habit of success.

All of my presentations are, to a greater or lesser extent, interactive affairs. Using this format, I hope to ensure maximum understanding. So, you can imagine my shock when I found out, immediately after my most recent webinar, that all the attendees had heard some of the material in ways I had not meant.

The interesting thing is they all had different interpretations at different parts of the material. Had they all had the same misunderstanding, then it would have been clearly my fault. But the fact that the ‘misunderstandings’ occurred in different places for different people (and that at these places some had heard correctly) means only thing: that we come to a presentation with a filled glass; as a result, we impose our perceptions and context on the presenter’s material. This results in a misunderstanding of the material.

The question is what can a trading coach do about the problem?

This is where the Coyle model comes in.  By adapting Coyle’s message to trading, I can say this:

I know that the current students have no misunderstanding about the material. It’s now only a question of the students applying the material How a trading coach can assist in that quest, is a story for Monday.

For today,  let me leave you with this thought: if you want to obtain maximum benefit from any book or seminar, you owe to yourself to read ‘The Talent Code‘.
