BarroMetrics Views: ‘Worthwhile Sites and Courses’

It’s time for a review. I have added and subtracted from my list of worthwhile commercial and free sites. in this list below, the letter ‘F’ stands for ‘free’ and ‘C’ stands for ‘commercial’. Some sites have both a commercial and free service.

Courses

  1. Pride Educators (www.tradewithpride.com) [C]: at the top end of the price range. BUT for me, great value for money.  Note that I speak only in relation to the educational content. I have no experience with the prop. trading offer. Unlike many others, the material is applicable to all timeframes and not just a scalping or day-trading timeframe.
  2. Gramza Market Studies Foundation Course (http://www.dangramza.com/courselogin.asp) [C]: this is at the other end of the price spectrum - only US$119.00 for about 140 minutes of excellent instruction. Great content and well presented.  I thing it is especially useful for the initial monitoring of a trade on a structural basis.

Sites Relating to a Trading Plan

  1. Quantifiable Edges (http://www.quantifiableedges.com/quantifinderinfo.html) [F] [C]: The best quantitative approach site I have come across. Rob Hanna focuses on the US Stock Market.
  2. Sentiment Trader (https://www.sentimentrader.com/) [C]: Jason Goepfert runs a close second to Rob Hanna’s site in terms of useful ideas. His site has one added advantage - it also provides information on sentiment with his ‘dumb’ and ’smart’ money studies.
  3. Gann Global (http://www.gannglobal.com/) [C]: One of two sites I use for long-term data. The advantage with James Flanagan’s site is he dissects the data for you. He also gives trading recommendations. I don’t follow these; so, I can’t give you an evaluation.
  4. The Chart Store (http://www.thechartstore.com/) [C]: If it’s technical or fundamental charts and data, this is the place to be; e.g. it has data on the DJIA going back to 1885!

Sites Relating to Psychology

  1.  TraderFeed (http://traderfeed.blogspot.com/) [F]: A fantastic free site. Dr.  Steenbarger is a coach only for professional traders but in this site and in his books, he does great things for the retail traders. His latest book: “The Daily Trading Coach“is a must for any trader, experienced or novice.
  2. Trader Psyches (http://traderpsyches.com/) [C]: The blog is nothing to write home about but Ms Denise Shull has a webinar workshop that is very good. I have seen some of my own friends make great strides after applying her material.

Sentiment

  1. Bullish Review (www.insidercapital.com) [C]: Great value for money. Steve Briese interprets COT data to provide an insight into commercial activity.
  2. Sentiment Trader (https://www.sentimentrader.com/) [C]: (see above)
  3. Whisper Numbers (http://www.whispernumber.com/)[C]: This used to be my number one pick for sentiment. But they discontinued their futures service and  now only provide mainly US stock market data. (There is some sparse covering of International Markets and Interest Rates). Given the coverage and cost - just value.

Software & Data Providers

Charting Software:

  1. Market-Analyst (http://www.market-analyst.com/) [C]: It carries most of my tools, Barros Swings, MIDAS etc. Is now stable after having gone through a rough patch because of a total re-write. It has some novel tools. The software also provides end-of-day and intra-day data.
  2. Channelze (http://www.qudospubs.co.uk/) [C]: Brian Millard’s application of Hurst cycles. Great software if you believe in Hurst Cycles (I do).
  3. E-signal (www.eSignal.com) [C]: One of three online services I use. In my view, the best value for money of the three.
